Why ‘west canyon’ studio?

I thought you’d never ask!

Though the studio was dreamt up in Washington State, the name is inspired by where I gave birth to my son, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I’d like to think my aesthetic in all things, but especially in design, is a perfect blend of evergreen PNW and toasty Southwest. I believe as a designer that your environment and life experiences help mold the art you produce best. After all, the Southwest and Northwest have more in common than you’d think…

When we first arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico we lived in an adobe (it’s just as you’d imagine it to be.) The exterior walls were made of a rough textured clay, with smooth curves gently guiding you around corners, rather than the sharp edges you see in traditional homes. The kitchen & bathroom were tiled with hand-painted “Traditional Talavera” tiles that were bright blue.

Locals refer to New Mexico as the “Land of Enchantment.” What a perfect way to describe a place with such diverse landscapes.

*30 minutes north of Santa Fe to Los Alamos, where we were amazed to find pine trees, birch and snow.
